More Animals Found Decapitated, Skinned Along Road

Authorities Increase Reward To $6,100

Nearly a dozen animals were found decapitated and skinned on the side of a Superior Township road Thursday morning, where authorities have an ongoing investigation of similar discoveries.

A driver spotted the dead animals -- including two skinned foxes, two decapitated deer, a coyote intact and five skinned coyotes -- in the area of Gotfredson and Warren roads, Local 4 learned.

Authorities have been investigating after a terrier mix was found decapitated along a stretch of Harris Road Wednesday evening and a rotweiler was found in a similar condition on March 16, Local 4 reported.

"This was someone's pet. This dog was healthy and fat," said Julie Curtis of the Huron Valley Humane Society about the terrier mix.
The humane society responded to Harris and Geddes roads in Superior Township on March 16 to find a female rottweiler bound by her feet with duct tape and decapitated. The dog was lying next to five skinned coyote carcasses, according to a Humane Society of Huron Valley news release.

"I think it's the (fur) trappers maliciously killing them, and they're family pets," said Curtis.
Though trapping season begins in October and ends March 1, humane officials say these are the first instances involving a household pet.
Local 4 viewer Mark Sondergaard tipped the Humane Society in the discovery Wednesday evening. He saw a news report on Tuesday, then discovered the terrier mix a day later, according to the station's reports.
Sondergaard said he has a Jack Russell terrier, and it is "a little close to home for this to be happening."
Curtis said the Humane Society received more than 60 tips in a 24-hour period Thursday. A reward, which started at $500, has increased to $6,100 for information leading to an arrest and conviction, according to Curtis.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE -- December 20, 2005 -- Diamond Pet Food has discovered aflatoxin in a product manufactured at our facility in Gaston, South Carolina. Aflatoxin is a naturally occurring toxic chemical by-product from the growth of the fungus Aspergillus flavus, on corn and other crops.

Out of an abundance of caution, we have notified our distributors and recommended they hold the sale of all Diamond Pet Food products formulated with corn that were produced out of our Gaston facility (see complete list below). Hazel needs a home! Please repost this wherever you can, it would be nice for Hazel to find her forever home for the holidays! She has been in the shelter system FOREVER, and my friend took her home to give her a break from the stressful shelter atmosphere. Tell Congress to Reject Indefensible Defense Bill
The Department of Defense appropriations bill is no present for animals. Not only did the leadership making final decisions on the bill go out of their way to reject common-sense and humane language to stop the spread of avian flu by cracking down on cruel cockfights, they inserted a controversial amendment to allow oil drilling in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge. Tell Congress to reject this bill that omits a crucial anti-cockfighting provision and opens a national wildlife refuge to energy production that will harm sensitive wildlife species like polar bears and caribou. This bill will be up for a vote as soon as Wednesday, so it is important for you to take action right now.

This is actually an urgent listing, so if you can't act fast, please don't reply.

We are temporarily taking in 30- 40 Lhasa/Poodle-Poodle/Chihuahua mixes from an urgent breeder situation. Gorgeous small dogs of every color, all below 3-4 years. Not vetted. There are a couple rescues pending who will take several, but there will be plenty left.

The catch is we can only hold them in boarding 48 hours, any interested rescue would have to be able to come to Southern Indiana to pick them up by Friday. They are not vetted, and we don't have funds to vet out 30-40 dogs all at once, but they all appear quite healthy and affectionate.

Little pup Miracle hangs on, with help

People are rallying to the badly abused puppy found Monday, sending money for care and good wishes for her recovery.

CRYSTAL SPRINGS - The more Gary Franckewich learns about the tortured puppy he named Miracle, the harder the words come out.

He knew the 14-pound puppy he found Monday afternoon was in bad shape: a rubber band wrapped tightly around the dog's jaws, her tongue left sticking out, deprived of food and water for perhaps days.

But Wednesday, he found out just how much Miracle has suffered.

"She had a broken back leg and one broken front leg and her hip was broken, too," said a teary-eyed Franckewich. "How could this little dog even walk to where I was?"

Emotions still ran high Wednesday for those who have come to learn Miracle's story, along with an outpouring of money for veterinarian bills and outrage that anyone could intentionally inflict such pain.

"I can't believe the amount of people that have stepped up and want to help," said Pam Edris, office manage at the Crystal Springs Veterinary Clinic, which is treating Miracle. "It's been astronomical, but it's been wonderful."

Edris said her office has been inundated with calls about Miracle, offering financial support and even a home when the puppy regains her health.

But Miracle isn't out of the woods yet.

More than half of the pit bullterrier's tongue has been amputated. She is being fed through an IV. But her mouth also rotted, and now she is losing some of her lips. Her immune system is low, which is why Miracle can't risk receiving visitors.

Dr. Gail Mendenhall won't be able to perform surgery until Miracle has been fully diagnosed. Her bills could exceed $1,500, and if she survives, Miracle will need rehabilitation and constant care.

Among the donations pledged this week, west Pasco businessmen Tommy McCormick, Danny Timmer and Angel Villamil are offering a $700 reward for information leading to an arrest and conviction.

Not that Miracle is holding a grudge.

"As amazing as it is, she still loves humans," Edris said. "When we go back there . . . her little tail goes thump, thump, thump."

What would be even more amazing, Franckewich said, is if he can take Miracle to his home one day. Despite the expense and time required, the carpenter said he can't give her up.

"I work. . . . I work a lot . . . but I do, I want to have her. . . . ," he said. "I would love to be able to have the chance to have her and take care of her. . . .

"How can I not? Basically, she found me."

Puppy's Ears Cut Off; Humane Society Investigating

(KSDK) - The Missouri Humane Society of Missouri is investigating a case of animal abuse.

A four month old boxer and pit bull mix was brought in to the Normandy Animal Hospital last night with both his ears cut off.

The veterinarian says this is the worst case of abuse he has seen in his 25 year career.

"King" is a four month old boxer and pit bull mix. The puppy's owner says the dog ran away for several hours and when it came back his ears had been cut off.

It's not clear what was used to cut off the dog's ears. The vet says recovery will be long and painful for the dog.

In addition to the Humane Society, police were also contacted.

He was brought to Family Dogs New Life from another shelter where he was slated to be put to sleep because he keeps getting passed over...

Dimas. Fredericksburg VA Deaf 2yo 100lb Ambull/pit lived on a chain his whole life, PTS10-14-05

This poor deaf big baby has lived on a logging chain for 2 years and now only has till friday 10-14 before he will be PTS- no shelters around here adopt out pits so if it is an owner turn in He will be Euth'd immediately

This one is literally breaking my heart- I will pay for all vet care if someone can take him- I am sick to my stomach that I cannot help myself- I have 6 males at my house right now, and I live in a subdivision- I just don't have the space

I got a call yesterday from a man who told me he had an all white Deaf 100 lb pit bull he had to get rid of because he is getting a divorce and selling his house- HE DOESN"T EVEN HAVE A PHONE- He called me from a payphone- so I knew that he did not have a camera or email to get me pictures so I went over there last night

This boy is huge like I said over 100 lbs- the owner said his father was all white and bigger and even boxier head (probably Am bulldog) and the mom was smaller and fawn. He is 2 yo, of course unaltered- he has had a rabies vax about 3 months ago- but any more than that is questionable- As I couldn't understand him- and he did not understand me- Spanish speaking.

Even at night with me and my husband approaching this guy with a huge spotlight flashlight he was barking at first- but as soon as we bent down to pet him he licked our hands and wiggled his butt. The 30 minutes that we were standing there the owner was petting him- you could tell this was THE MOST ATTENSION he has gotten in a long time. The owner flat out admitted to me he has tried to take him to the vet to as he said "get the shot" i asked vaccines- he said no to be put sleep because he knows the shelters will kill him anyway.
The dog has gotten off his logging chain once the owner said he ran accross the street and played with the neighboor & his dog- until the owner cam home. It is amazing that this dog is still friendly after all those factors but he is- I am sure he'll need training as the current owner spends NO time with him- he admitted himself. I asked how he gives him commands- via handsignal or ?. Basically he hasn't done anything- He didn't even find out the dog was deaf until at 6 months he had to go to the vet for emergency tx- had blood in his urine- and vet staff told him- shows you the attension this dog was payed- None.

Please if you think you can help call me or email ASAP- as he doesn't have a phone I will just have to go to his house- which is not far only 20 min and wait for him to come home, I can go there and ask any questions you might have- I also have addt'l pics if interested

Please help, this poor boy has had such a crappy life- he deserves a chance his neck is raw and stained from that chain- he doesn't even have a real collar on- I want to cry for him- it was so hard to leave him there last night- but I physically have no where to put him

Princess has been in foster care for almost three months now to ensure her stability as a companion and let me say she is an awesome representation of what a pit bull should be. She has been living in a home with an older male lab that she is in love with and two cats that she would rather live without. Princess is OUTSTANDING with people, 100% potty trained, quiet in a crate, enjoys going for car rides, walks good on a leash, and loves to sit in your lap to give you kisses. Princess is good with children but is easily excited so would do best in a home with kids over the age of 8. 120$, through Multnomah County Animal Services, includes Spay, microchip, licensing for a year, first set of shots, rabies shot, and a health exam to a vet of your choice. The 16th annual PAWS IN THE PARK™ will take place on Sunday September 25th, 2005 at Sunnybrook Park in Toronto. All proceeds from this family dog walk will go to the animals cared for by The Toronto Humane Society. PAWS in the PARK™ is The Toronto Humane Society's largest special event fundraiser.

All pledge-raising animal lovers, with or without dogs, are welcome to attend this fun-filled event. A parent or guardian must accompany individuals under 18. For the safety and well being of all PAWS attendees, if your dog does not behave well with others, please leave him at home and do the walk on his behalf.

Molly is an adorable senior who would love to find a lifetime home. Due to long term neglect she battles with chronic ear infections. With antibiotics (on an as needed basis) and a watchful eye she stays infection free. A SiberMal (Siberian Husky, Malamute cross) Molly gets along with most other dogs, children and loves to get a lick in on your face. Sherman is a 4 year old, neutered male lab x huskey cross, that came to us when his family needed more space. Sherman will make an excellen ski-jour partner and has the manners to go with that. He doesn't jump up on you and likes the other dogs. Sherman however is not fond of the felines or young children. He is ready to go home with you today. This huskey mix came in as a stray, and is now available for adoption. Found on Goldfinch Road. Slightly overweight and seems to be an older dog. He's happy and friendly with people, but may not be good with other dogs. He has pale blue eyes and a nice coat. Seems to be well-behaved indoors and likes lying on his blankie. He is an escape artist when outdoors and would need to be chained. Like most huskies, he will also dig. Jake is a 10 year old Yorkie who is very affectionate and loves attention! He is still very active!! He was brought to the shelter after his owners passed away...he is up to date on shots, neutered, teeth cleaned and healthy as can be for a senior baby. Extensive bloodwork has been done and everything is normal. Jake does have cataracts, but that is normal for a senior baby. Elsa is a Papillon Mix who is up to date on shots, dewormed, spayed , heartworm tested negative and started on heartworm preventative. She gets along well with other dogs. When Moses was a baby he was taken to the Huntsville Animal Services. Moses along with his 4 brothers and sisters were taken back to the haven and bottle fed and were allowed to nurse with Angel's mother. He is a very handsome cat with beautiful tabby markings and white socks. He loves people and other cats and tolerates dogs. Slash is another of the many kitties TEARS rescues who are allowed to roam free outside. He was in the engine of a car and when it started, the fan belt cut him across the face and eye. Free to good home -- female 8-10 week old kitten found living under a port-a-potty in Tiftonia, Tennessee. This is north Georgia/Chattanooga area, with some driving negotiable.

This kitten is "in process" right now through the rescuers, which is to say that she has not yet been vetted, but she will be fully vetted -- including a certificate for spay/neuter -- before being handed over to any given home.

She's very friendly, social and outgoing -- a long-haired, pretty-pretty princess of a creature. Ear and toe fur tufts (plus a few other secondary characteristics) imply possible Maine Coon lineage.

DISCLAIMER: I am not associated to the shelter, the foster parents, or the animal itself. I am only advertising out of hope that i can direct more attention towards this.

Jimmy Durante is a young male boston terrier ~~that needs a loving home~~. This poor boy has a horrible case of neglect and starvation whatever you want to call it. Despite whatever he has gone through this little boy just comes up to be petted and loved without any hesitation. When I was checking him out at the shelter, a lady came in and he was trying to get some attention from her. Dogs are the only creature i know that can take so much and still have it in their hearts to love people. It is a good thing I am not a dog or I would be biting people left and right. I have named him Jimmy Durante and have been calling him Skinny Jimmy and Micah his foster mom is calling him Slim Jim. He has a very bad case of malnutrition. I promised Jimmy he would never have to go hungry again.

UPDATE: i have learned that Micah the foster mom has decided to keep Jimmy! YAYAYAY! To learn more go here and if you want to see some updated pictures of Jimmy, go here =D. However, Jimmy's vet bills did cost a small fortune so if you want to help, look below!
